The 600 mtrs stretch from Railway over bridge to Mahaveer Bhavan is being widened under police protection. Since the past two days the work on the said road has begun in which Rs.9 crores would be spent for a stretch of 600 mtrs alone.
The local businessmen have been opposing the widening of this road to 120 feet and sighted various reasons for the same which include the PWD records which say dont destroy private property etc.
The protesters were today taken to Tilakwadi Police station and later relased.
Why there is Controversy regarding Road Widening in Belgaum Only.
Last week I had been to Mangalore, Famous IDEAL ICE CREAM Building was demolished for Road Widening .They have been given adequate Compensation over there.Even in Gulbarga ,Court has lifted stay order ,and Road widening work on Station Road has began. If this is the trend ,Belgaum will be laggging in Developement.
