In a decisive meeting held at the Deputy Commissioner’s (DC) office on Wednesday, MP Jagdish Shettar announced the cancellation of the proposed Road Over Bridge(RoB) at the Tanaji Galli railway gate. The review meeting was attended by representatives from Panch Mandali and local corporators from the Tanaji Galli area, who voiced strong opposition to the project, citing potential harm to the area’s narrow lanes.
During discussions, it was argued that existing flyovers in the vicinity already meet traffic needs, making a new structure redundant. MP Shettar aligned with the concerns, stating that he had personally visited the site with MLA Abhay Patil and noted potential issues a flyover could bring to the community’s accessibility. “Once a flyover is canceled, it cannot be proposed again easily,” DC Mohammad Roshan remarked, stressing the importance of a balanced, long-term decision. Ultimately, the panel agreed that no flyover would be built, and a recommendation letter from MP Shettar to this effect will be sent to the Railway Department.
Tanaji Galli and the first and second railway gates in Tilakwadi had been initially included in RoB plans. However, local corporators and residents had consistently expressed their concerns in multiple meetings, which ultimately led to MP Shettar’s decision to support the cancellation.
Although Railway officials had initially hoped for approval, they withdrew plans following the unanimous opposition.
With DC Roshan now tasked to convey the cancellation to the Railway Department, the residents’ campaign against the flyover has reached a successful conclusion.
