The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) had challenged the High court order in the Supreme court where the SC dismissed a petition filed by the NHAI challenging the High Court of Karnataka’s stay order restraining the widening of NH-4A in Belagavi to Goa.

The 82 odd kms stretch from Belagavi to Goa is planned to widen to 4/6 lane. Work had also commenced, but noted environmentalist Suresh Heblikar and Joseph Hoover had filed a PIL before the High Court of Karnataka over the felling of trees and the road passing through the reserved jungle.

Due to the stay, the work has been stopped and in some places, the roads have un motor-able like from Khanapur to Ramnagar.

The Farmers from nearby villages have also taken a stay on the by pass road from Halga to Macche which is part of this project has also been stalled due to the HC order.
