Belagavi City Corporation has mandated that traders selling tobacco products within city limits must obtain a separate license. This directive aligns with a 2022 Central Government notification requiring dedicated permits for the sale of tobacco products.

The application process for this license is now open, with a deadline of February 15. The application fee has been set at ₹500, and forms are available at the City Corporation office. Applicants must submit the following documents along with the application:

  1. A valid trade license issued by the City Corporation.
  2. Aadhaar card of both the applicant and the establishment owner.
  3. Proof of tenancy or ownership of the premises where tobacco products are sold.
  4. A recent passport-sized photograph of the applicant.

City Corporation officials emphasized that this initiative aims to regulate tobacco sales more effectively and discourage condiments and tobacco co-sales at the same location. “We are implementing this directive in compliance with Central Government regulations, which categorize tobacco as a distinct trade,”.

Failure to obtain the license by February 15 will result in legal action against violators. Sellers must also hold a valid business license in addition to the new tobacco sales license.
