Sharquat day celebrated by MLIRC

shrqat1shrqat2The ninety fifth anniversary of ‘SHARQUAT DAY’ was celebrated by The MARATHA LIRC on 29 Oct 13 with grandeur. ‘SHARQUAT DAY’ is celebrated every year to commemorate the gallant victory of 114 MARATHAS (Now the Regimental Centre) at Sharquat on 29 Oct 1918 during first world war.

The event assumes significance as Deputy Chief of Army Lt Gen Narendra Singh, AVSM, SM, VSM, Colonel of The MARATHA LI is attending the celebrations.

The highlight amongst the various functions was a grand cultural programme organised at Shri Chattrapati Shivaji Stadium.

The programme showcased a few famous chapters from history. The famed ‘Malkhamb’, ‘Lezim’ and ‘Jhanj Pathak’ was also performed by a large troupe of soldiers from The MARATHA LIRC.

The event was attended by a number of military and civil dignitaries along with families of the military station.
