Shiv Jayanti celebrated with great fervour

Belgaum is known for its unique traditions and celebrations and one such celebration is the Shiv Jayanti. Tributes were paid to the warrior king Shivaji Maharaj and huge number of people gathered to witness the grand procession.
Mahesh Naik mayor and Renu Mutgekar Dy.mayor perfomred the Palkhi puja and the procession made its way forward from Nargundkart Bhave chowk, Maruti Galli, Ramdev galli, Samadevi Galli, Ramling Khind Galli, Tahsildar Galli.

Thousands of people from all walks of life thronged the streets and all vantage points were occupied to get the perfect view. The procession reached its last point the Kapileshwar Temple in the wee hours of the morning. The decorated tableaus from different Galli’s and areas of the city, showcased posters and skits recalling the historical incidents of Shivaji.
Dying perfomng arts such as Lathi (stick) fighting skills, sword fights, fire ball string skills, Lazim dance, Karela skills, playing of Zhanz Pathak and more along the procession was the added attraction. Women were not behind, they too displayed their fighting skills with sword which was a crowd puller.
