Maharashtra Ekikaran Yuva Samiti leaders Shubham Shelke and Manohar Appaji Hundre were arrested by the Khadebazar police on October 22, 2026, in connection with a case registered under the Scheduled Castes and the Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act. Both were produced before the 3rd Additional District and Sessions Court in Belagavi, which remanded them to judicial custody until November 4.
According to the police, the case is registered as Crime No. 12/2025 of Khadebazar Police Station and is pending before the court as S.C. No. 285/2025. The court had declared the two accused absconding after they failed to appear despite a proclamation being issued. They were subsequently apprehended and produced before the court in compliance with its order.
The case dates back to an altercation between two groups outside the Maharashtra Ekikaran Samiti office in Ramling Khind Galli on January 15, 2025. Raju Talwar, a resident of Ganachari Galli in Belagavi, lodged a complaint alleging the use of casteist slurs during the incident. Based on his complaint, the Khadebazar police registered a case against Shelke and Hundre on the same date.
The police had directed the two accused to report to the police station on Thursday morning for further legal proceedings. They were subsequently taken to the district hospital for a medical examination before being produced in court and remanded to judicial custody.
Shubham Shelke releases video, makes allegations
Following the police action, Shubham Shelke released a video from the police station in which he made allegations concerning the January 2025 incident and the complaints filed in connection with it.
Shelke referred to a complaint filed by Manohar Hundre, following the January 15 altercation. According to Shelke, the police registered a case against three individuals on January 16, 2025, based on Hundre’s complaint.
Shelke alleged that Hundre was subsequently asked to withdraw his complaint and claimed that the case in which he is now an accused was filed because that demand was not met. These are allegations made by Shelke in the video.
