Social Club and Kreeda Bhavan turns 100

Not many institutions last for a 100 years, the Social Club and Kreeda Bhavan on College Road Belagavi has entered into the festive mood as it is celebrating it’s Centenary.

102 years ago on August 16, 1916, Raja Lakhmgouda Basavprabhu Sirdeasi of Vantmuri bought a land measuring 8273 Sq mtrs and generously gifted the same for the construction of a building to start a social club and a place to play games in Belgaum.

Rajasaheb wanted an independent place for locals not only for their pleasures but also to serve the society at large as he himself was a benevolent reformer than a Raja.

The objective of the founding fathers Shrimant Captain Parshuram Patvardhan, KCIE, Chief of Jamkhandi, Shri Balasaheb Desai of Koujalgi and many prominent people under the leadership and guidance of Raja Lakhmgouda Sirdesai.

Sirdesai wanted this to be a place to serve the social needs such as social gatherings, entertainment, sports etc and thereby help generate social harmony, peace encourage the local talent.

The club offers a wooden badminton court, gymnasium, Card rooms, Conference hall. The club has a lawn and a fountain the center.

The club centenary celebrations would be kicked off on 18th December by Chief minister H D Kumarswamy.
