In a much-needed relief for commuters, the Public Works Department (PWD) of the state government has approved the repair of two major roads in the Cantonment area in Belagavi. The road stretching from Globe Theater to Postman Circle and further from Postman Circle to Station Road will soon be asphalted, ensuring a smoother and safer commute.
Several roads in the Cantonment area have been in a severely damaged condition, drawing criticism from citizens. The Postman Circle to BSNL Office stretch was particularly hazardous, often blocked due to its poor state, leading to frequent accidents.
While these two roads have received approval, other highly deteriorated roads like Ganeshpur Road and Nolan Marg remain neglected, making daily travel a nightmare for residents. Despite repeated complaints, no action has been taken on these roads yet.

The Cantonment Board had earlier halted asphalting work due to a lack of funds. In an effort to resolve the issue, it submitted a proposal to the PWD, requesting state government intervention. Following an inspection, PWD officials forwarded the proposal for approval, which has now been granted.
A copy of the approval has been sent to the Cantonment Board, and the roadwork is expected to begin soon.
