As the monsoon rains begin across the district, fear of dengue is spreading. On Saturday, a 28-year-old youth died of dengue fever in Belagavi, heightening worries among the residents.

By June 30, the health department tested blood samples from over 1,500 people in Belagavi district. Out of these, 170 individuals showed symptoms of dengue, and 250 exhibited symptoms of Chikungunya. Among the tested, 70 were confirmed dengue-positive. All taluks in the district have reported dengue cases, with the highest numbers in Belagavi city, Khanapur, Ramdurg, and Bailhongal.

Health officials are urging the public to take necessary precautions to curb the spread of dengue. Key measures include:

  • Eliminating standing water: Ensure no stagnant water is around homes, as this can be breeding grounds for mosquitoes.
  • Protecting vulnerable groups: Special care should be taken for children with low immunity, pregnant women, and the elderly.
  • Using mosquito repellents: Apply mosquito repellents and use nets to prevent mosquito bites.
  • Maintaining cleanliness: Clean surroundings and dispose of waste properly to avoid creating mosquito habitats.

By following these precautions, the residents of Belagavi can help reduce the risk of dengue and safeguard their health.
