Team from Stanford University visits GIT

Pinning Ceremony for University Innovation Fellows, selected by Stanford University and interaction session held at KLS, Gogte Institute of Technology, Belagavi on 4th December 2017. Speaking on the occasion, team member Ms. Humera Fasihuddin, Co-Director, University Innovation Fellows said that, The University Innovation Fellows is a program of Stanford University’s Hasso Plattner Institute of Design (d school). The program was created as a part of the National Center for Engineering Pathways to Innovation (Epicenter), a five-year National Science Foundation grant of US.

Initially this was started with few numbers of fellows later it increased and now it reached 270 fellows, she said. This program empowers students to become driving force of change initially at their schools and also in the society.

The Fellows are a global community of students leading a movement to ensure that all students gain the necessary attitudes, skills and knowledge required to compete in the economy of the future. These student leaders from schools around the world create new opportunities that help their peers develop an entrepreneurial mindset, build creative confidence, seize opportunities, define problems and address global challenges.

GIT stanford Also she appreciated the GITs autonomous curriculum and inclusion of Design Thinking course as a mandatory credit course in the syllabus.  She was very happy to see the innovation and creative culture at the institution and lauded the efforts of Management and the staff members at GIT to be one of the model engineering institutions in India.

Another team member Ms. Katie Dzugan, Director, Community and Network Development, University Innovation Fellowoship (UIF) explained about the programme vision and read the manifesto of the programme.

Mr. Ghanashyam Shankar, India Program Manager, UIF appreciated that KLS Gogte Institute of Technology, Belagavi is the only higher education institutions of North Karnataka to be associated with the Stanford University through the University Innovation Fellows programme. He also praised the GITs achievements and best practices have been practicing in the GIT campus for the effective implementation of university innovation fellow programs manifesto. Institute should put the achievements /Best Practices in the public domain in a proper way to attract more and more stakeholders, he said.

The Stanford team had a fruitful interaction with Shri. U.N. Kalkundrikar, Chairman, Governing Council, KLSGIT, Shri. Raj Belgaumkar and Shri Vinayak Lokur, Proud Alumni and members of KLS, Principal Dr. A.S. Deshpande in presence of Deans and Heads of Departments.

The students selected for the 2017 UIF programme are Ms. Sanjana Baliga, Ms. Sanjana Gombi, Mr. Ajay Chandrapattan and Mr. Sagar Shinde. The students selected for the UIF fall 2017 session were awarded the pinning kit by the Chairman GIT Mr. U.N. Kalkundrikar and the team from Stanford University. The Stanford team was very happy and appreciated the achievements of GIT.
