There has been a notable increase in theft cases in Belagavi over the past month, with incidents reported from the Khasbag and Tilakwadi areas. In a disturbing trend, single women are being targeted and robbed, raising fears that the notorious Irani gang may be active in the city once again.
A recent robbery on Friday has further heightened concerns. The incident involved a woman wearing a gold chain while attending a puja. The thieves spotted her, followed her, and then snatched her chains before escaping on a motorbike. The local community is urging the police to take swift action to apprehend the culprits.
There is intelligence suggesting that the gangs involved in these robberies have fled to Goa and are currently in hiding. Authorities are actively pursuing leads, utilizing CCTV footage and collaborating with the Regional Transport Office (RTO) to identify the suspects’ vehicle based on its model and color, even though the bike’s number has already been recovered.
Belagavi City Police Commissioner Yada Martin Marbaniang has reassured residents that the police department is taking strict measures to apprehend the thieves. He emphasized that anyone witnessing or experiencing theft should immediately call 112 to report the incident.
As the Belagavi police intensify their efforts, residents remain vigilant, hoping for a swift resolution to this unsettling wave of crime.
