Tipplers look out for a bigger hole to your pockets, as the BSY govt. in the state has increased the excise duty on Liquor.
The State Government has increased liquor prices in three slabs by 10 per cent, 15 per cent and 20 per cent with the aim of bringing in excise revenue of Rs. 9,200 crore during the year.
The price increase is effective from April 1. The hike varies from Rs. 2 to Rs. 25 for a 180-ml bottle and the increase alone will fetch additional revenue of Rs. 567 crore.
MRP for a 180-ml bottle has been raised from Rs. 59.62 to Rs. 89.41.
The price of popular beers such as Kingfisher Premium will cross Rs 100 per bottle, while standard whiskey brands like Signature will hit a new high at over Rs 600 a bottle, costlier by almost Rs 30-50.
Minister for Excise M.P. Renukacharya on Monday also added that the retail price of a 180-ml bottle of branded liquor in the State was still be lower than it was in Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Andhra Pradesh.
