The Hindu reports,
A one-day-old baby died in Belagavi on the first day of the Statewide strike by private medical practitioners on Saturday. The doctors are striking work against the proposed national medical commission.
The male child that was born to Basappa and Lakshmavva Changle in Gokak on Friday was suffering from breathing problems. It was shifted to Lake View Hospital in Belagavi on Saturday. It died a few hours later.
Though the parents complained that the child died due to the negligence of doctors, the hospital has denied it. Basappa told TV channels that the doctors did not attend to the baby for hours after it was admitted. “If they had treated the baby sooner, it would have survived,” he said.
Girish Sonwalkar, a doctor at Lake View Hospital, told presspersons that the charge was false. “Doctors treated the baby immediately after it was brought in. But it did not survive as its condition was serious,” he said.
