A shocking accident in Khanapur has exposed severe negligence in NWKRTC bus maintenance and management. Two women narrowly survived after falling from a moving bus and nearly being crushed under its wheels when the plywood flooring broke.
The incident occurred when Padmini Bhujang Kadam (65) from Nidgal was traveling on a Godgeri-bound bus. As the vehicle hit a speed bump near the Rumewadi, the plywood under her feet gave way. Kadam and another woman fell under the bus, but the vehicle stopped just in time to prevent a fatal accident. Kadam sustained a head injury and is being treated at a nearby primary health center.
This incident has drawn attention to the deteriorating state of buses at the Khanapur depot. Despite being labeled “high-tech,” the depot has been criticized for failing to maintain its fleet. Many buses remain in poor condition, and repair work is allegedly neglected by the transport department. Passengers regularly face inconveniences, and representatives’ directives for improvement appear to be ignored. Source:
