The Union government will consider renaming the Belagavi City Railway Station after Sri Shiva Basava Swami of Naganur Rudrakshi Math, announced Minister of State for Railways V. Somanna during his visit to Belagavi on Sunday.
“I will request the State government to send a formal proposal for this, and I will urge the Union government to consider it positively,” he said while addressing devotees during the 135th jayanti celebrations of the late seer and the unveiling of the statue of Sri Hangal Kumaraswamy.
On infrastructure development, Mr Somanna shared updates on the new railway line connecting Belagavi to Dharwad via Kittur. He stated that construction would begin as soon as the State government completes the land acquisition process.
A meeting of railway officials at the South Western Railway Headquarters revealed that 90% of the required land for the project is expected to be handed over by January. The district administrations of Belagavi and Dharwad have assured the transfer of 550 acres and 272 acres, respectively, to the railway department.
This development is anticipated to enhance connectivity and boost economic growth in the region.
