The much-awaited Senior Citizens’ Entertainment Center, a landmark initiative by Belagavi South MLA Abhay Patil, was inaugurated today at the Vaccine Depot premises Belagavi. Heralded as the first of its kind in India, this project is set to become a vibrant hub for senior citizens, fulfilling a promise made in the MLA’s manifesto.
To ensure the center meets its users’ real needs, MLA Patil consulted with senior citizens before designing the facility. The result is a thoughtfully curated space offering a wide range of amenities, including:
Open-Air Theatre for drama, speeches, comedy carnivals, and cultural activities.
Music Room equipped with instruments like the tabla, guitar, violin, and mouth organ.
Library and Reading Room for those seeking quiet relaxation.
Sports Room featuring table tennis, carrom, chess, and other games.
Open-Air Gym for light exercise and well-being.
Meditation and Yoga Platform to promote mindfulness and health.
Usabari Katta – a dedicated space for casual talks and social interaction.
The center is offering a stage for small performances and a canteen for refreshments. MLA Patil emphasized that additional features will be added over time based on feedback from users.
Encouraging senior citizens to take ownership, he proposed forming an association to manage the center’s operations. To support this effort, he pledged an annual allocation of ₹5 lakhs from his MLA fund, provided the association maintains the facility properly.
