District In-charge Minister Govind Karjol has announced that the alleged scam of Belagavi Urban Development Authority (BUDA) in auctioning sites will be thoroughly investigated by senior officials of the Urban Development Department.

Karjol gave the Deputy Commissioner, Nitesh Patil, three days to submit a detailed report on the alleged scam. Karjol stated that if the investigation proves the scam to be true, action will be taken accordingly.

BUDA conducted a manual auction of 112 sites at Sahyadri Nagar, Kumaraswamy Layout, Ramtirth Nagar and Devraj Urs Colony on March 18, 2022, just one day after selling 101 sites at Ramtirth Nagar, Kumaraswamy Layout and Laxmi Tekdi.

AAP leader Rajeev Topannavar has accused BUDA of a scam worth Rs 100 crore. It has been alleged that the manual auction was called without any public notification and the sites were sold at far lower rates, despite most of them being corner plots. Furthermore, it is claimed that only a single bidder participated in the auction and they bid without depositing any money with the authority.

The issue has gained political attention in recent months, with the demand for a fair investigation increasing. After the media coverage of the issue, Karjol has now instructed a detailed probe.
