PSI Anilakumar Kumbar of Nippani Rural Police Station filed a complaint with CEN Crime Police Station that someone had opened a fake Instagram account in his name and was misusing his photos.
In response, a case was registered and Mr. BR Gaddekar, Police Inspector of Belagavi District CEN Crime Police Station, conducted a thorough investigation.
On 26/01/2023, the accused Vijaykumar Barali aged 28 resident of Athani was apprehended and interrogated, revealing that he had created a fake Instagram account in the name of PSI and amassed over 1,12,000 followers, claiming to be PSI and befriending more than 50 women, fraudulently offering jobs and other lures and deceiving them by obtaining money of Rs.4 lakh.
Furthermore, the accused had created nine other such fake Instagram IDs.
The accused was then presented before the Honble Court and remains in judicial custody.
The operation was carried out by Mr. HL Dharmatti PSI, Mr. AH Bhajantri ASI, Mr. K. R. Imamavar ASI, Mr. GS Lamani, Mr. SI Bhandi, Mr. N. R. Ghadeppanavar, Mr. Eeranna Anitahalli, and Mr. CA Kelagade.
