The Anti Corruption Bureau (ACB) has nabbed two persons, Assistant Executive Engineer and Office Manager of Athani Rural Water Supply and Sanitation Department while accepting bribes.
Rajendra Indrappa Varnakar, Assistant Executive Engineer, Athani Grameen, and Deepak Krishnaji Kulkarni, Office Manager are the names of the officers caught in the ACB trap. While accepting a bribe of Rs 68,000 from a contractor, ACB officials arrested the duo and further investigation are underway.
The officials had demanded 3 percent of the contract amount from a contractor in Belagavi to get the work contract under the Water Supply Department’s Jaljivan Mission scheme.
The contractor had lodged a complaint with the ACB in this regard. Taking note of this complaint, the ACB officials set a trap and caught Varnakar and Kulkarni red-handed while accepting the bribe.
ACB Police B. S. Nyamgoudar, Karunakar Shetty, Inspector Galad, Adivesh Gudigopp, Sunil Kumar and their colleagues carried out the operation.
