A woman in Vantamuri, Belagavi district, was subjected to a horrifying ordeal when an angry mob tied her to an electric pole and mercilessly beat her. The incident occurred at approximately 3 am on Monday. The Kakati Police Station has registered a case and taken seven men into custody, while two others remain at large.
The situation in Vantamuri village, near Belagavi city, remains tense as a result of this incident. To maintain order, a significant number of police officers have been deployed to the village. It is worth noting that both the victim and the perpetrators belong to the same community.
According to Belagavi Police Commissioner SN Siddaramappa, the incident unfolded when a 24-year-old youth and an 18-year-old girl, who were in love, decided to elope at 12:30 am. In response, the girl’s parents and relatives stormed into the boy’s house, where they subjected his mother to a brutal assault. She was forcibly dragged out of her home, tied to an electric pole, and savagely beaten. Disturbingly, the victim’s family members claim that the mob even stripped her before the assault took place, as reported by TV9 Kannada.
Upon receiving the information at 4 am, the police promptly arrived at the scene and apprehended seven individuals. However, two suspects managed to evade capture. Commissioner Siddaramappa has assured that they will interview the victim to gather more details about the incident.
