The work on the rejuvenation of the 12 Pulley well at Hutatma Chowk (Bara Ghadghadyachi Vihir) has begun since today.
The work is expected to end before the monsoon and even if the water is not utilised this season, it would be a boon for the next years.
In the older times this was the biggest well in this area provoding drinking water to the areas in the city. This well was exactly infront of the Kaveri Cold drinks now.
Dr. M. Vishveshwarayya who designed the Rakaskop Scheme had mentioned in the Preamble to his report that “Belgaum water supply can be maintained by a chain of wells.”
Many wells in the recent past have been rejuvenated which has helped in the restoration of water supply in many areas.The work on the well of Sheri Galli corner has already commenced and water streams were found just at 15 feet, people say the well was atleast 65 feet deep.
