Vidya Aadhar Project supports the education of needy students from the sale of old news papers, books donated by citizens.
The project initiated by Shantai Vrudhashram has until date supported more than 184 students since its inception in 2013 and a sum of about 10 lakhs have been distributed amongst the needy students.
The scheme is very simple wherein old news papers, books , magazines are donated by citizens and the same is collected and sold and the money generated from the same is utilized to support the needy students so that they can continue their studies.
Speaking to AAB about this initiative Vinayak Lokur said that, “This is a very innovative idea to generate funds for the students. Most of the time the old news papers are stored eating up the home space. This initiative helps one to clear the home space at the same time it will help someone to continue their education which otherwise would have been hampered due to shortage of funds.”
The needy are identified from various streams such as Medical, Engineering, Diploma and then they are supported by this initiative. It does not end here, the students progress is also monitored and if needed also they are helped to be self employed.
