The Belagavi Municipal Corporation will be going to the polls on September 3 where the citizens will elect 58 councilors who will represent them and hopefully will raise their voices for the betterment of their ward (area).

The nomination process began on August 16 but on day two as well no one has filed their nomination papers as yet.

The political parties are yet to finalize their candidates while the wannabe councilors are trying to get the no dues certificates etc required for filing the nomination papers.

After decades of language-based campaigns, the Belagavi City Corporation may be heading for an election that would be fought on party affiliations.

This is probably the first time that the big parties are entering the fray openly.

AAP is also gearing up and sources say they have identified 36 candidates already.

AIMIM is also planning to make an entry this time.

For years local body elections have always swayed on the language factor rather than anything else.

This time around it will be new for the voters to see party symbols ahead of the candidates.
