How to file nominations for Councilors Belagavi Corporation elections

The Belagavi Municipal Corporation will be going to the polls on September 3 where the citizens will elect 58 councilors who will represent them and hopefully will raise their voices for the betterment of their ward (area).


Now anyone whose name appears in the Electoral Roll of the 58 wards in Belagavi Municipal corporation limits can stand for election from any of the wards.

The minimum age must be 21 years.

Important dates:

Issue of Notification: 16/08/2021
Last Date for filing Nominations: 23/08/2021

Scrutiny of Nominations: 24/08/2021
Last date for withdrawal of Candidature: 26/08/2021
Date of Poll: 03/09/2021

Counting of Votes: 06/09/2021

Nominations can be filed between 11 am and 3 pm at Vishveshwaraih Nagar, Ashok Nagar, Main Administrative office of the city Corporation Subhash Nagar, Konwal Galli, and at Goaves Corporation Complex.

Nomination paper and the format for the same will be provided to the political parties and independents as the case may be in the city corporation office.

Candidates must submit two affidavits with their application form: One is Form 26 which provides details of the assets and liabilities of the candidates’ dependents, and if there have been any cases against them.

If any category in the affidavit is left blank, the application will be rejected. Another affidavit has to be submitted stating that if the candidate has occupied any government office or residence over the past 10 years, all dues have been cleared.

Candidates from recognized State and Central parties have to also submit Forms A and B which deal with the authorization from the said party that the candidate is contesting from the mentioned ward.

Every candidate is allowed, by the rulebook, to file a maximum of four nominations. They only have to make sure that when they file the nomination they adhere to all rules under the category that they stand from.

For example, if you are from the general category then you have to fill out a normal form and attach three affidavits (two originals and one xerox) and pay a deposit of Rs 5,000 ( if you belong to SC/ST or a woman candidate then the deposit is Rs 2500).

The candidate can also file nominations as an independent and as a party representative. Because if the candidate fails to get Form B from the party then he can always contest as an independent.

Each candidate has to open a new bank account and provide the A/C number. All transactions and expenditures towards the election must be made through this account.

Although it is preferred that Form B be filed with the rest of the papers it is not mandatory. Form B must come in before 3 pm on the last date of nomination filing.

The maximum amount one can spend for campaigning is ₹ 3 lakhs

Details of the expenditure must be submitted to the RO.
