“I love dancing the Contemporary way and I will dance till my last”, says Girish Kamanuri a young dancer from Belgaum.
Girish who did his schooling from B K Model School later pursued his PUC at Phoenix college and then his diploma in pharmacy.
In college he participated in dance events for college and he realized that dance is something that makes me happy. Girish candidly says, “I did pharmacy only because my parents told me”. In 2004 after taking part in many events for the college he finally decided that Dance was where his life will take him. He met Roger his first guru and inspiration who was a Hip hop and B-boying trainer in Bangalore. He then met Hamid an Iranian who taught him more skills of contemporary dance.
Girish recently decided to come back to his home land (Belgaum) and take further his career in dancing with his company ZeroG centre for performing arts.
Girish will launch his dance academy which will teach contemporary forms of dance which will include Hiphop, b-boying etc. He plans to train anyone above 7 years and the duration of the course will range from 2 months to 2 years.
Girish has done numerous productions, workshops, courses on contemporary dance country wide and trained many in this dance form.
Girish told this blog, that Belgaum lacks a good auditorium and a place like the Kala Soudha in Bangalore where one can get the entire stage/equipment for rehearsals for a minimal cost. If such kind of a place was to be there in Belgaum, the talent Belgaum can bloom.
With respect to reality shows, he said “ reality shows spoil life; as one gets sudden fame and but later he is not able to sustain it. Instead of this if he can nurture him or herself to the replete it would be good for their future.”
“DREAM” a dance show has been arranged on August 28 at Kalamandir where Girish and his team will perform and showcase their talent at 6.30pm.
