A one of its kind Children’s Diabetes Centre (a unit of Belgaum Diabetes Centre) was inaugurated at Somwar Peth, Tilakwadi, Belgaum by renowned Endocrinologist Dr KM Prasanna Kumar of Bangalore. At the same time Dr K H Belgaumkar Foundation, a charitable trust to help diabetic children was inaugurated by Dr V D Patil Registrar, KLE UNiversity and Senior Paediatrician.
Raj Belgaumkar highlighted the objectives of the Foundation. Dr Neeta Deshpande, Director of the centre, explained the concept of an exclusive centre for diabetic children. Dr VD Patil highlighted the emergence of increasing numbers of diabetic children and the need for exclusive centres for their care. Dr Prasanna Kumar spoke about his vast experience of the last 20 years odd service to diabetic children. An inspirational talk was given by a type 1 diabetic patient who is now a diabetes educator. The inaugural program was anchored by Mrs Ashwini Belgaumkar and Dr Reshma Parmaj proposed the vote of thanks.
The centre will cater to all the needs of diabetic children under 18 years of age under one roof. The services will be extended by a panel of experts–Dr Shilpa Kodkany (ophthalmologist), Ms, Ashwini Belgaumkar (psychologist), Dr Rohit and Dr Chinmayi Joshi (paediatricians), Dr Asawari Sant (pathologist) and Dr Sonal Joshi (dentist).
