The State Government has approved the construction of a sports ground at Yellur in Belagavi South constituency, with ₹1 crore allocated for the project under the Department of Youth Empowerment and Sports for 2026-27.
The Department issued an order on August 6, approving the project as part of the government’s action plan for developing sports grounds, playing fields and state-level sports facilities across Karnataka.
Of the ₹1 crore sanctioned for the Yellur project, ₹5 lakh has been released during the current financial year. The release of the initial amount is expected to facilitate the administrative process and enable the project to move towards execution.
The Yellur sports ground is part of a larger ₹100 crore sports infrastructure plan approved by the State Government. Of this, ₹65 crore has been earmarked for the construction of sports grounds, playing fields and related buildings, while ₹35 crore has been allocated for the development of state-level sports facilities.

The proposed sports ground is expected to provide much-needed space for sports practice, training and competitions for youngsters and sports enthusiasts in Yellur and surrounding areas.
The approval is likely to give a boost to sports infrastructure in the Belagavi South constituency, where access to dedicated sporting facilities remains important for local athletes and youth.
