Inspector-General of Police (Northern Range) Raghavendra Suhas said that 10,980 mandals will install Ganesh idols at public places in Belagavi, Vijayapura, Bagalkot, Dharwad and Gadag districts.
The security has been tightened all across the range and as many as 12,000 police personnel including the RAF will be deployed during the upcoming Ganesh festivities.
In Belagavi district there are 3,796 mandals in Belagavi district (excluding Belagavi Commissionerate).
Suhas said as many as 3,000 people have been taken under preventive custody under Section 107 of the IPC to prevent untoward incidents.
