The Belagavi City Corporation had started a 13 3R center to enable residents to reduce, reuse and recycle waste. After the collection of around 2 tonnes of recyclable material, it has now been decided that at 5 locations permanent 3R centers would be established.
These centers will be the hub of waste collection and management in the city as part of the ‘Meri LiFE, Mera Swachh Shehar’ campaign, cities, and States are to engage in a 3 week-intensive online and on-ground campaign to spread awareness regarding reduction, reuse and recycle of waste.
The five permanent RRR centers in Belagavi –
Dhanshree Garden at Bhagyanagar, Dry Waste Collection Center at Udyambag, Center near the Crematorium at Chidambar Nagar, Kanda Market as well as the collection center at Sardars Maidan on College Road.
The collection of recyclable items will continue at the above locations.
The RRR centers are now open to accept household waste, including old books, footwear, furniture, plastic, and clothes. Residents are encouraged to return materials such as e-waste, clothes, and household and office items made of metal and wood. Those who deposit reusable items will receive T-shirts or items made of paper or other recyclable materials as a token of appreciation.
The collected items will be processed to enable the reuse and recycling of the materials, which will significantly reduce the load on the BCC’s solid waste management process. The implementation of RRR practices will contribute towards the conservation of natural resources, money, and energy.
