As many 7 Bangladeshi arrested from Belagavi were arrested and after interrogation another 5 were detained, which takes the total of the detained illegal immigrants from Bangladesh to 12. The 7 arrested earlier have been given judicial custody for 14 days by the court.
The 5 arrested on Saturday have been identified as Habibur Shaikh, Rakibuk Mural, Ikram Abdulkayar, Mohd Mulla, Ibrahim Yusifi from New Gandhi Nagar and Auto Nagar under the Mal Maruti Police station.
It may be recalled that One person had come to Belagavi about 8 months ago and got himself Aadhar card, PAN CARD and even a passport and was trying to fled to Dubai from Pune where he was nabbed at the airport. Out of the 7 in custody one is a old woman as well.
The police suspect as many as 300 illegal immigrants could be residing in Belagavi.
Many of them are employed in silver and gold works. They are Belgaum since 1990s… administration lethargy and corrupt govt officials made they stay here. By now many of them might have got voting cards. Sad state of affairs..
