8 districts in the state saw a Weekend curfew on 7 & 8 August as per the order issued on 06-08-2021.
The order issued –
Whereas, the Hon’ble Chief Minister on 06-08-2021 reviewed the COVID 19 situation in the State with the concerned Officers and Health Experts. It was suggested by the Health Experts that additional containment measures needs to be imposed in light of upcoming festival season to prevent the spread of COVID 19. Now, therefore, in exercise of the powers conferred under the Sub Section (1) of Section 24 of the Disaster Management Act, 2005, the Chairman, State Executive Committee, directs Chief Commissioner BBMP, Police Commissioners, Deputy Commissioners, Superintendents of Police of the districts, and other Authorities to take following additional containment measures in view of the upcoming festival season which will come into effect from 07-08-2021 and will be in force until 16-08-2021.
According to this order, the same is in force until 16-08-2021, which is next Weekend also happens to be the Independence day weekend as well.
The businessmen are not at all happy with this decision of the lockdown. Belagavi has a positivity rate of less than 1% even then just because it is next to the border the entire district has been put under a curfew.
The curfew is also not completely implemented. The Essentials are open up to 2 pm and all the other businesses are closed.
Political parties have their Karyakarta Melavas in which the crowd is more than 100 but no one questions them, but the police impose fines on the shops at APMC for violation of covid norms.
This decision of weekend curfew will make no difference whatsoever in arresting the Covid cases.
As of date there are 496 active cases in the district.
Is the weekend curfew serving any purpose is another big question?
Covid restrictions should be implemented only in borders and not in the whole district. Covid problem will continue for few more years and public should learn to live with it, which is a reality.
