Major airports in the country have been named after personalities and now the Govt of Karnataka is speeding up its process to find out the names which it can use for the renaming of the Airports in the state.
Belagavi, Dakshina Kannada, Mysuru, Dharwad and Kalaburgi deputy commissioners have been asked to expedite the process to rename the airports. The government has also sought information about historical personalities of the regions after whom the airports can be renamed.
After UDAN airports such as Belagavi have seen exponential growth and more is expected with more airlines commencing.
This spurt if air traffic across the state has prompted the Govt to fast track this process of identifying names that can be given to these airports.
To change the name of an airport a resolution has to be first passed by the state assembly. Then it has to be passed by the Union cabinet and finally notified in the Gazette of India.
On many occasions, there have been demands made that the Belagavi Airport be named after Sangolli Rayanna or Rani Chennamma.
Now only time will tell what name the Belagavi Airport will be rechristened with.
