The Nation is celebrating successful completion of five years of GST roll out on 01-07-2022. The Ministry of Finance, Department of Revenue, Central Board of Indirect Taxes announced the theme of “GST@5: Saadhan, Desh ke Sarvangeen Vikas Ka“ on the completion of five years of introduction of GST. The occasion is dedicated to recognizing exceptional performance by taxpayers spread across 12 districts of North Karnataka and commendable achievement by officers of Belagavi CGST Commissionerate. The occasion is a platform to interact with various stake holders of the trade and industry.
During the financial year 2021-22, GST collection saw new heights as a sign of robust economic growth. At all India level, the Karnataka Zone is placed at second in collection of GST at Rs.48,440 Cr, next only to Mumbai Zone.
Within Karnataka, the Belagavi CGST Commissionerate collected highest revenue of Rs.10,172 Cr for the year 2021-22 as compared to Rs.7,124 Cr previous year, which is 43% more than previous year collection. M/s. JSW Steel Ltd., is the highest GST paying unit in the state of Karnataka which has contributed to majority of revenue in Belagavi Commissionerate by paying GST of Rs.3,974 Cr for the year 2021-22.
This is an indication of vibrant and robust economic activity in the districts of Belagavi, Dharwad, Gadag, Koppal, Vijayanagara, Bellary, Raichur, Yadgir, Gulbarga, Bidar, Vijayapura and Bagalkot, which covers the jurisdiction of Belagavi CGST Commissionerate. The Belagavi GST Commissionerate is the largest Commissionerate in Karnataka Zone
During the fiscal year, the Belagavi GST Commissionerate took up various steps to facilitate taxpayer compliance like extensive interaction with members of the trade bodies, listening to problems, issuing directions and resolving them, ensuring timely availability of working capital by quick sanctioning of eligible GST refunds. As part of the nation’s Azadi ka Amrut Mahotsav, Taxpayer facilitation centres were created at GST Bhavan, Club Road, Belagavi and also at Divisional offices to assist trade and industry.
