Belagavi Corporation should Takes Steps to Reopen Closed Shahpur Bypass Road- MLA Abhay Patil

Belagavi South MLA Abhay Patil raised the issue, to initiate the re-acquisition of land for a bypass road near Mahatma Phule Road in Shahpur, connecting Old PB stating that the road’s closure, caused by the non-payment of ₹20 crore as directed by the High Court, has led to significant inconvenience for commuters at the General meeting of the city corporation. He called for immediate action to reopen at least one side of the road, especially in light of the upcoming legislative session in Belagavi starting December 9.

MLA Asif Raju Sait acknowledged that the road had been constructed without completing the necessary land acquisition process. He urged officials to consider the legal implications and submit a proposal to the state government to regain the land from the owner. Despite not being on the meeting’s official agenda, MLA Patil brought the matter to immediate attention.

Mayor Savita Kamble instructed officials to take legal advice and consult with authorities to expedite the process.

MLA Patil assured that one side of the road would be reopened during the legislative session. He emphasized the hardships caused by the closure, particularly for school buses, parents, citizens, and police personnel.

Rajeev Topannavar recently filed a complaint with the Karnataka Lokayukta, alleging mismanagement in the construction of the road. He called for action against those responsible, including former MLAs, City officials, and Smart City Scheme administrators. He also demanded the recovery of expenses incurred for the road from these individuals.
