Belagavi city is set to witness a historic transformation with the construction of its first-ever flyover. Spanning an impressive 4.50 kilometers, this ambitious project will extend from National Highway-48 (NH-48) to Kittur Rani Chennamma Circle, continuing towards the NH via Dr. Ambedkar Road and KLE Hospital. The flyover aims to significantly improve traffic flow in the city, which has been struggling with increasing congestion.
This project, which carries a staggering estimated cost of ₹4500 crores, is the brainchild of District In-charge Minister Satish Jarakiholi. It has received the green light from Nitin Gadkari, the Union Minister for Road Transport & Highways, marking a major milestone for the region.
A Solution to Growing Traffic Congestion
The construction of the flyover is a strategic response to Belagavi’s escalating traffic issues. As the city’s population and vehicular density grow, the need for efficient traffic management has become more pressing. The flyover is designed to ensure smoother vehicular movement, reducing bottlenecks and easing traffic throughout key areas of the city.
The flyover will begin near the Sankam Hotel on NH-48, pass through critical junctions like Ashoka Circle and Sangolli Rayanna Circle (R.T.O.), and extend up to Kittur Rani Chennamma Circle. It will continue along Dr. Ambedkar Road, eventually reconnecting with the NH near ICMR. This route is strategically planned to alleviate traffic at some of the city’s most congested intersections.
Infrastructure Integration
In addition to addressing traffic woes, the flyover will be integrated with other significant infrastructure projects. It is designed to accommodate the upcoming super specialty hospital and the new district collector’s office complex, ensuring that these important facilities are easily accessible.
Key Features of the Flyover
- Rotaries at Major Junctions: To facilitate smooth vehicular movement, rotaries will be constructed at Ashoka Circle and Kittur Chennamma Circle. These rotaries are expected to significantly reduce congestion at these critical points.
- Three Ramps for Traffic Flow: The flyover will feature three ramps designed to streamline traffic. One ramp will lead to the bus stand, another will connect to the RTO on the roundabout side, and the third will join the Mahantesh Nagar side road at Ashoka Circle. Similarly, at Sangolli Rayanna Circle (R.T.O.), three ramps will connect Chennamma Circle, Krishna Devaraya Circle (Kolhapur Circle), and the bus station.
- Service Road to Sambra Airport: An additional service road through a proposed Road Over Bridge (ROB) will provide direct access to Sambra Airport, further enhancing connectivity for residents and visitors.
This flyover project DPR will now be prepared which will have more exact details of the project, currently this information is just from the Action Plan report.
Good job
What about the traffic on Udyambag and peeranwadi side???
Why nobody is seeing this???
What about that half completed 3rd gate ROB???
It proves there are no leadership in India which can think about future..
They want just to make money by corruption like all other bridges constructed in and around Belgaum..
Let it be done honestly and perfectly. Present over bridges of the city are in a very bad shape with no good roads and no street lights. No authority cares for them. Such huge investments should be done smartly with long run vision.
That’s what exactly is need of the hour. Further more such needed for decongestion of the traffic inside city.
Good job
It’s much needed fly over to avoid traffic conjetion on this road. In fact it should also extended upto railway station flyover beyond fish market. That road is also very narrow and lot of traffic conjetion due to school, colleges and industrial area. I hope this will also be addressed subsequently.
However it’s welcome step.
Great news..
KALBURGI traffic is fully congested. Erratic tragic traffic, no traffic rules followed, needs foremost attention.
Sirs,
A new green field Airport will cost anyway from Rs10000 crores to Rs20000 crores or more . Belagavi has had a fully functional Airport since lndependence. Its the single biggest infrastructure asset in Belgavi. But the Sambra Airport just 10 km away has not been properly connected to the City. Very Sad and short sighted of the Politicians and business leaders of this Historical city of Belgavi. Now atleast make a proper plan and give Proper connectivity between the Sambra Airport , Belagavi city and Suvarna Souda.
Iss se aacha hai ki aap bypass banao from peeranwadi to High way because traffic huge truck se hora heavy vehicle city me aayegi nahi Goa Jane Wale aur udayam bag ka traffic bypass se bhar High way pe nikal jayega to city me traffic hoyega hi nahi

Very good job, nice step taken. Should be honestly carried out
Such infrastructure projects will enhance the beauty of the city & should be a pride of the city. But whatever we have seen in the railway flyovers at Shahpur & 3 Rd railway gate , reek of corruption. These are very poorly designed & executed.
It is better not to have such developments.
Request humbly to all the authority concerned to please complete the project in its time frame and honestly… because either way the construction activity is going to cause lots of difficulties to the local community as well as the traffic on the routes …where construction is involved
4500 crores estimated cost??? Plz check it is not..
Brother, this estimate is considered some of main things ,
Utility shifting, widening of existing roads, electric poles on flyover, land acquisition compansation for widening existing roads etc..
Well, it’s a commendable initiative that could significantly improve commuting for the people. However, as Belgaum residents, our main concern is the quality of the work. The 45,000 crore investment is substantial, and we’ve already witnessed how funds allocated for Belgaum’s Smart City project were misused, resulting in poor roads, substandard infrastructure, and low-quality materials. This has led to a perception among citizens that corruption played a role.
While this new project is promising, it’s crucial that politicians first address the pressing issues in our city, such as the much-needed railway overbridge at 1st and 2nd gate, and the maintenance of existing roads. Additionally, if this project proceeds, the government should publicly disclose the names of the contractors involved. This transparency will allow us to hold them accountable if issues arise in the future.
So where will the ganpati temple and Rani statue be shifted..
We need 4 Lane with divider.Otherwise, not much use of this project as we are expecting.
And also it should be extended atleast up to Railway station traffic signal.
Sir, good plan but sir please do some plan for 1gate& 2nd railway gate tilakwadi over bridge its also nessary for this side area people
It is realy a long pending requirement of the Belagavi city but it should be completed in the frame work of time and the quality work should be there and not like earlier over bridge quality construction done in the last one decade.
Belagavi needs Master Plan catering atleast next 30 years. Any development project should not be as per will of people representative or any ruling party. We got promised for Smart City white topping for 20yrs service which ended marely within 20months with 24/7 Amrut Scheme. Same should ne be repeated due to lack of coordination and integration. Construction of flyovers, by pass roads, Dedicated public transport corridors, Metros, satellite Bus & Railways stations, Multi level Parking yards should be integrated and put on papers with phase wise execution. Expert panels to be created and consulted for scientific and engineering approach.
How much money will be gulped out of whole sanctioned has to be seen .It will be another most sub standard project detrimental to citizens of Belagavi
Can we expect it ready to use by 15 August 2047 ?
