The long-awaited Belagavi flyover project has moved a step closer to execution, with the Public Works Department (PWD) floating a ₹270-crore tender for the first phase of the project. Officials expect the tender process to be completed by August, followed by the appointment of a contractor in September.

Chairing a review meeting at the Deputy Commissioner’s office, Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Roshan said construction is likely to commence by the end of September or within the following two months.

The first-phase tender includes provisions for shifting utilities such as HESCOM power lines, water supply pipelines, and underground sewage lines that fall within the project corridor. Around ₹20 crore has been earmarked for these utility relocation works.

Addressing environmental concerns, Roshan said the administration will minimise tree felling by adopting tree translocation wherever feasible. He noted that nearly 35 trees were successfully relocated during the Bauxite Road widening project, and a similar approach will be followed for the flyover. Trees affected by the project will be transplanted to government or public land within a 1–2 km radius.

To reduce disruption during construction, the district administration, in coordination with the Police Commissionerate and the PWD, has prepared a traffic diversion plan. Around ₹3 crore has been allocated for temporary roads, barricading, and traffic management measures.

Roshan also revealed that the second phase of the flyover, estimated to cost around ₹250 crore, is in the final design stage. The proposal is expected to be placed before the State Cabinet for approval within the next two to three months, after which the tender process will begin.

A larger consultation meeting involving citizens, traders, industry representatives, and other stakeholders will be held shortly to ensure the project is implemented with minimal inconvenience.

The review meeting was attended by Police Commissioner Bhushan Borse, Zilla Panchayat CEO Rahul Shinde, and senior officials from the Municipal Corporation, HESCOM, the Forest Department, the Public Works Department, and other concerned departments.
