Union Gymkhana in Belagavi Cantonment was sealed by Defence Estates authorities on Wednesday evening following the execution of a long-pending eviction order.
According to officials, the club’s lease had expired several years ago, and the matter had been pending before various courts. After the legal process concluded, including orders from the High Court, the Defence Estates Office issued directions to take possession of the property. A notice dated July 10, 2026, directed the club to vacate the premises before July 15, failing which possession would be taken.
Authorities said the premises were sealed today as part of the implementation of the court’s eviction orders.
The sealing of Union Gymkhana comes just days after the club was in the spotlight following a sensational firing incident on its premises. The shooting, which took place on the club grounds, prompted a major police investigation, with special teams formed to trace the accused and probe the motive behind the attack. While the firing incident is being investigated separately by the police, the eviction and sealing of the premises by the Defence Estates authorities were carried out in pursuance of long-pending court orders related to the expiry of the club’s lease and unauthorised occupation of Defence land.
