No doubt protests, agitations, rallies are rights in a democracy but not at the cost of others. The direct effect is on mobility due to the traffic jam.

Many cities have planned for an exclusive Protest Zone in line with Bengaluru’s Freedom Park where a part is earmarked to hold agitations.

Most of the protests in Belagavi are held at Rani Chennamma Circle which blocks the entire traffic at the circle and also causes traffic jams in diverted areas as Rail Nagar, club Road etc.

Belagavi needs an exclusive Protest zone

The Circle, which connects to many roads including the state and national highways must be kept free of protests.

Traffic movement is hampered in Belagavi for a long time due to various forms of protests.

The city corporation and the district administration must think on this and make space for an exclusive protest zone which will protect the rights of the citizens and at the same time will not hamper mobility.

  2. Raasta Roko is illegal activity. Police Dept and Dist Administration should allow any one to protest on Rani Channamma Circle. There is big Sardar ground nearby for the protest.

  4. I would suggest to shift the DC office to vidhan soudha. Anyways it is built on the taxes we all together have contributed so it should also be used to the best possible manner. Let is make a Rani Chennamma statue near the KLE hospital NH4 exit and let the protestors start at the statue and finish after meeting the DC let them walk in the hot sun for Kilometers together and understand the pain everyone else faces

  5. I fully agree with the Editor. It is high time the DC and the Police Commissioner sat together to find a suitable site for the protesters. It should be away from educational institutions and hospitals and should not cause inconvenience to normal life of the general public. CPED Ground seems to be a suitable place.
