The “Top Cities for Women in India 2024” report by Avtar has placed Karnataka at the forefront of women’s inclusivity and development, with Bengaluru securing a spot in the top 10 cities. The ranking recognizes cities based on their efforts to create a safe, inclusive, and empowering environment for women.

Belagavi, known for its solid waste management initiatives, has been ranked 27th in the City Inclusion Score with a score of 17.46. The city has made strides in safety, healthcare, and education, which have played a crucial role in its progress. However, the rankings indicate a drop from 13th place in 2023, when Belagavi had a score of 31.32.

Belagavi’s 2024 Rankings:

  • City Inclusion Score: 27th (Score: 17.46)

Belagavi’s 2023 Rankings:

  • City Inclusion Score: 13th (Score: 31.32)
  • Social Inclusion Score (SIS) Rank: 22nd
  • Industrial Inclusion Score (IIS) Rank: 13th

The Social Inclusion Score (SIS) evaluates livability, safety, workforce participation, and women’s empowerment initiatives, while the Industrial Inclusion Score (IIS) assesses gender-inclusive workplaces, women-friendly industries, and career enablers like childcare support and flexible work policies.

Despite its significant contributions toward creating a more inclusive society, Belagavi’s drop in ranking suggests the need for stronger policies and sustained efforts in industrial inclusion and gender-equal career opportunities. The Avtar report serves as a roadmap for policymakers, organizations, and individuals to foster women’s empowerment across India. Report
