The Belagavi Smart City Ltd. (BSCL) has issued a Request for Quotation (RFQ) to engage an agency for conducting comprehensive environmental and social assessment studies as part of the CITIIS 2.0 Programme. The selected consultant will evaluate the city’s solid waste management system, quantify waste generation, and obtain necessary environmental clearances.
The study aims to provide crucial insights into the composition of municipal solid waste (MSW) across households, commercial establishments, and institutions. It will also assess environmental and social impacts, ensuring sustainable waste management solutions tailored to Belagavi’s needs.
Belagavi City Corporation, responsible for civic infrastructure and sanitation, plays a key role in this initiative. The project aligns with India’s climate commitments under COP26, supporting eco-friendly urban development through evidence-based planning.

The assessment will include a solid waste characterization and quantification study, determining waste types such as organic, recyclable, hazardous, and debris. The findings will guide integrated waste management strategies under CITIIS 2.0, a program backed by the French Development Agency (AFD), KfW Development Bank, and the European Union.
With an estimated population of 7.12 lakh and 2.28 lakh households in 2025, Belagavi’s growing urban footprint necessitates efficient waste management solutions. The RFQ marks a significant step towards achieving a cleaner, more sustainable city.
