Under the system, bicycles can be borrowed from docking stations set up across the City for a nominal fee. The users, however, have to be registered as members by paying a fee that also includes a refundable deposit and obtain a smart card by swiping which they can take out a bicycle from the docking station.

  1. It’s a good initiative idea to keep Belgaum people healthy and to reduce pollution…but we need to have good roads actually best tracks …a special marking on the road only and only for bicycle user around the entire city not only specified place or slected places ..and good cycling track ..as we are serving in this business since 51 years so we have a much experience what people think about belgaum and what is in demand .

  2. While Bicycle sharing project/initiative is a good thought, SmartCity project should look at addressing the more basic needs of city and people. Look at improving roads ensure it is pot-hole-free around the year. Enforce proper parking and add more parking space. RIght now people can’t even afford to walk along most roads in the city and you are suggesting paths for the bicycles? It looks like some smart contractor/official has thought of making quick money under the guise of this project! Sounds sinister but the past history is full of such stories.

    • I concur. You got it right 🙏

This is another money making racket. Such projects never worked in this shit hole.

  3. Wonderful initiative. However the survey did not have a place where we could enter the concerns/ comments. Would be great if the roads as well are made safe for cyclists, else without safety of cyclists, the usage would not be as expected. Also as a trial, such services could be started in areas like Tilakwadi or Angol where people usually go out to do small chores like buying vegetables, paying elec bills etc and either take rickshaws or go by walk. Cycles could reduce their time for commute and also make Belgaum less polluted. However, the dropping points of these bicycles as well needs to be thoroughly planned.

  4. THE POST HAS REMINDED ME OF THE THRILLING GOLDEN CHILDHOOD DAYS WHEN I USED TO GO TO SCHOOL ON THE BICYCLE.THIS SYSTEM OF RENTING BICYCLE WAS ALREADY UPTO 1986. IN MYCHILDHOOD DAYS . I USED TO AVAIL THIS FACILITY (BICYCLE ON RENT BEFORE MY FATHER PURCHASED A NEW BICYCLE FRO ME) FREQUENTLY TILL THE END OF MY GRADUATION IN ENGINEERING IN 1981 ( I AM NOW 59 YEARS). THE SYSTEM PREVAILED TILL FURTHUR FOR TWO YEARS AND AFTER THAT IT BECAME EXTINCT , SINCE MORE AND MORE PEOPLE SWITCHED ON TO BIKES. REGARDING THE REVIVAL IT MAY BE NOT BE OF MUCH UTILITY EXCEPT FOR HOBBISTS IN CYCLING ,TREKKERS ETC. THE OTHER REASON WHY THIS MAY NOT WORK OUT IS TIME HAS BECOME MORE AND MORE PRECIOUS NOWDAYS AND PEOPLE NEED A FASTER MEANS OF TRANSPORT. THE MOVEMENT OF BICYCLES IS LIMITED AND DEPENDS ON THE STAMINA OF THE CYCLIST. AS IT IS THE BICYCLE CAN BE USED USED ON LESS CROWDED ROADS AND MAY BE AN ANSWER TO POLLUTION.

  5. There are deck-less bike’s already in the market and they are trying to still go with docking stations. Dock-less bikes are much more convenient and are better suited for a “smart city”. They should collaborate with companies like https://www.yulu.bike for dock-less bikes.
