The government has planned to develop renowned shrines and tourist attractions in the state through a public-private partnership (PPP). As part of this initiative, the cable car project will be implemented in the Saundatti Renuka temple area, as announced by the state’s Tourism Development Minister, H. K. Patil, during a session in the Legislative Assembly.
During a question and answer session in the Legislative Assembly on Tuesday morning, H. K. Patil addressed the queries raised by Umanath Kotyan, MLA of Moodbidri. He explained that the government has undertaken a special scheme to identify and prioritize significant ancient tourist and religious sites in the state.
The government has given particular attention to 26 different types of tourism projects, including religious, cultural, adventure, agricultural, and traditional endeavors.
Under this scheme, private contractors will be engaged through the PPP method to develop these tourist spots. The Renukadevi shrine in Saundatti, located in North Karnataka, attracts nearly 2 million devotees annually, presenting a tremendous opportunity for the growth of religious tourism on Yellamma hill. H. K. Patil also announced the approval of the cable car proposal for this location.
