City bus stand development 2 years on and more to come

Today, 16 of February 2021 marks the second year of the Bhoomi puja for the Belagavi City Bus Stand redevelopment under the Smart city project.

Over the two years not even a single floor is still visible, the underpass work connecting the city bus stand and main bus stand is in progress.

As per the time mentioned in the tender the project must have been completed by now, but seeing it’s current state it may take another 2-3 years. The central bus stand work has also not finished as yet.

The work was hampered due to permission issues from the Cantonment, as it had raised objections over land under its jurisdiction being used for the bus stand without its permission.

The City Bus stand was planned in 2.07 acres out of which 32 gunthas land belongs to the Cantonment and no prior permission was taken from them, the board had said.

The Cantonment board took objection to the same and stopped all the work as they say, BSCL has encroached on 32 gunthas of its land for quite a long time.

Apoorva Constructions, Tumkur has won the bid for construction of city bus terminal building in Belagavi city at a cost of 32.26 crores.

Under the Smart city limited, the bus stand will get a new facade, waiting rooms, Basement parking for cars and also have a skywalk.
