The Congress is considering fielding Khanapur MLA Anjali Nimbalkar as its candidate in the 2019 Lok Sabha election from Belagavi, reports the Times of India.
The report further states, Congress had decided to field a Maratha candidate from Belagavi and Anjali is the lone person fitting the bill and currently, she is on top priority.
Anjali Nimbalkar is currently the MLA from Khanapur Constituency.
Belagavi constituency has been a Congress bastion from 1977 to 1989. In 1996 it was won by Janta Dal and BJP won in 1998 but again lost to Congress in 1999. Since 2004 BJP has retained the seat.
Now the Congress feels a women candidate will be the best choice to regain the seat.
