The letter written by BJP corporator Sandeep Jiragyal to the PWD section of Belagavi City Corporation caused a commotion in the Corporation general council meeting held on Wednesday. In the letter, Jiragyal instructed officials not to issue any building completion certificates or building construction permissions in his ward number 34 without notifying him. Opposition members, including Congress MLA Asif Sait, objected to the letter and demanded action against Jiragyal.
MLA Asif Sait stated, “Neither a corporation member nor an MLA can instruct officials to seek details of private properties.”
Some BJP members supported Jiragyal’s letter, arguing that it is the duty of a corporator to ensure no illegal activities occur in the ward they represent.
MLA Abhay Patil downplayed the issue, saying, “It is not a matter to be taken so seriously. If the demand is not in line with the norms, officials would have simply rejected the corporator’s letter. Jiragyal is a new member and may not be familiar with the council proceedings.”
The city corporation law officer clarified that Jiragyal’s request for officials not to issue building completion certificates and construction permissions without notifying him does not comply with the norms.
