Public Works and district in-charge Minister Satish Jarkiholi has announced that the much-anticipated Belagavi Super Specialty Hospital will soon begin operations. Although the building was completed in December 2022, the hospital has yet to open due to delays in appointing staff and acquiring necessary equipment. The Finance Department has approved plans to appoint staff on an outsourcing basis, and Minister Jarkiholi assured that there would be no further delays.
Constructed at a cost of ₹140 crore within the BIMS civil hospital premises, the hospital’s inauguration has been postponed due to technical reasons. Work on the project began in 2019, and the facility is expected to greatly benefit the local population once it opens.
Since December 2022 the building has been ready but due to a lack of grants for equipment and manpower the hospital hasn’t commenced its operations. Work commenced in 2019Â
The hospital will feature several specialized departments across its four floors: Neurology, Neuro Surgery, Plastic Surgery, and Endocrinology on the first floor; Gastroenterology, Nephrology, and Surgical Gastroenterology on the second floor; VIP and General Wards on the third floor; and Operation Theaters on the fourth floor.
Minister Jarkiholi also dismissed rumors that the project is being delayed due to pressure from the private hospital lobby, calling them baseless. He further revealed plans for another government cancer hospital to be built in Belagavi soon.
The new facility aims to provide high-quality healthcare services not only to residents of Belagavi district but also to neighboring states like Goa and Maharashtra, significantly enhancing the region’s healthcare infrastructure.
