Public Works and district in-charge Minister Satish Jarkiholi announced in Belagavi on Thursday that the land acquisition for the Dharwad-Kittur-Belagavi railway line is nearly complete, with only around 10 km of land acquisition still pending. He assured that the issue would be resolved soon.
This comes after Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw recently addressed the Lok Sabha, revealing that the Karnataka Government has yet to provide the necessary land for the construction of the Dharwad-Belagavi railway line. The 73-kilometer railway line, which passes through Kittur, has been approved on a cost-sharing basis between the Railways and the Government of Karnataka. According to the Minister, the state government is expected to provide the land free of cost for the project.
Despite requisitions being submitted for 888 acres of land, no land has been transferred to the project as of yet. However, Minister Jarkiholi, as quoted in The Hindu, emphasized that the Dharwad-Kittur-Belagavi railway line has largely been acquired, with only a small portion remaining.
