Dr Shrinivas K. Kulkarni top Pharmacologist from India (Rank-1) now resides in Belagavi

Dr Shrinivas K Kulkarni Emeritus Professor of Pharmacology of Panjab University has been cited as the top Pharmacologist from India (Rank-1) with 505 research publication, more than 13,000 citations and h-factor of 61. He is among the top 2% scientists with global ranking of 132 (Ref: Prof John PA Ioannidis, PLOS Biology, 2020).

The Stanford University, USA through its research created a database of 100,000 top scientists of the world using the criterion of science publications, citations, H-index and authors indicators in to 22 scientific fields and 176 subject category with the help of SCOPUS data.

It is a matter of pride for Belagavi as the Professor Emeritus, University Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Panjab University, Chandigarh after retirement has chosen Belagavi to be his home.

He ranks First in India and 132nd in the world (Rank world-wide (by subject area) with 503 papers submitted by him.

Shrinivas Krishnarao Kulkarni born December 1946 hails from Basavan Bagewadi of Bijapur district, and a graduate of Govt College of Pharmacy, Bengaluru holding the First position in B. Pharm degree. Professor Kulkarni is a former Pro-Vice Chancellor, Panjab University, Chandigarh and presently he is Emeritus professor of Pharmacology.

He was formerly the Dean and Chairperson of the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences.

He is a Fellow of National Academy of Medical Sciences, National Academy of Sciences and the Indian Pharmaceutical Association. He is a recipient of several national recognitions, including the UGC-Hari Om Ashram Trust National Award in Neuroscience, Ranbaxy Research Foundation Award, Acharya P.C. Ray Gold medal, Professor G.P. Srivastava Memorial National Award, and Life-time achievement award of the Association of Pharmaceutical Teachers of India. He has been honoured with titles of “Punjab Ratan” and “Eminent Pharmacist” in recognition of his distinguished services to education, science and society.

Dr Kulkarni has published more than 500 research papers (Google Scholar 2014-: Citation index > 13,000; H-factor 61, i10-index 172), >200 review and professional articles, 5 patents and 13 books. His recent book (co-authored) entitled ‘Pharmacologists of India’ which covers pharmacology research in India during the last seven decades. A Fulbright Visiting Scholar of US-Education Foundation (1987-89), consultant to WHO and member of Indian Pharmacopeia Committee (1990-2000), Dr. Kulkarni was the General President of the 53rd Indian Pharmaceutical Congress (2001), and Secretary General of Indian Pharmacological Society (1992-94). Dr. Kulkarni has been a visiting professor to the University of British Columbia, Texas Health Sciences University, University of Oklahoma and University of Illinois, and most recently to the University of the West Indies, Trinidad. He was also visiting professor to Indian institutions- JIPMER, NIMHANS, BITS and JSS Universities. He has served as the Director, Bombay College of Pharmacy, University of Mumbai (2009-2013). He works as consultant in Higher Education.
