The Directorate Of Municipal Administration has approved the much-debated Chandigarh study tour for corporators of the Belagavi city Corporation, imposing seven strict conditions. Key among them is a budget cap of ₹30 lakhs. Additionally, corporators are required to submit detailed expenditure reports, complete with receipts, to the Accounts Department upon return. This move comes in response to objections raised during an audit.

In the event of non-compliance, any excess amount will be recovered from the tour organizers. With approval now in place, 58 elected corporators, five government-appointed members, and two officers will embark on the tour from January 27 to January 31. However, the municipal corporation’s general meeting will not be held during this period due to their absence.

The study tour, aimed at examining the developmental projects of Chandigarh Smart City, was proposed during the general meeting on October 29 and subsequently submitted for administrative approval. The green light from the Municipal Administration Department has cleared the way, though strict guidelines accompany the go-ahead.

Among the conditions, the corporators are prohibited from taking package tours offered by private organizations; instead, arrangements must be state-managed. The itinerary is also restricted solely to Chandigarh Smart City and Chandigarh city, with no deviations. Furthermore, the Chandigarh Smart City authorities and the Local Self-Government must be notified in advance, with the tour commencing only after their formal consent.
